We Are a Global Methodist Church

The Vienna Methodist Church is a member congregation of the South Georgia Conference of the Global Methodist Church. This connection continues our commitment to historic Christianity in the footsteps of the Methodist way set forth by our spiritual father in John Wesley.

The core beliefs of the Global Methodist Church are that the one God – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – has created all things; that Jesus Christ, through the power of his cross and Resurrection, is the Lord and Savior of all the world; and that the Holy Spirit empowers the people of his church to worship and praise God and to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world in word and deed. Our History

The Vienna Methodist Church was formed in 1849 (as The Vienna Episcopal Methodist Church). Since then, it has been housed in three different buildings, the most recent being the current location at 313 Church St., erected in 1907. In 1968, the church became a part of The United Methodist Church (formed by the merger of The Methodist Church and The Evangelican United Brethren). In September of 2024, the church departed from The United Methodist Church and is continuing its ministry in the Wesleyan and Methodist heritage in the Global Methodist Church.

The mission of the Global Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe. Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the Global Methodist Church envisions multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ throughout the earth who flourish in scriptural holiness as we worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Since 1849, this church has been fulfilling that mission, sending people into full time Christian service as well as providing avenues for people to serve God locally. Our members understand that the church is not the building but the people who come together in the love of Christ.

Today, the Vienna Methodist Church continues its ministry, recognizing itself as an outpost of God's Kingdom here in Dooly County. We continue to pursue holiness while recognizing that we are living within the realm of God's grace. We invite you to join us in our journey of faith wherever you may find yourself spiritually.
